Louisiana lawmakers raise tuition at state universities

-- Tuition is going up at the Louisiana State (LSU) University School of Veterinary Medicine next year, due to a new state bill that authorizes controllers at several state universities to impose increases.

The state Senate passed House Bill 872, which calls for graduate-program tuition increases at schools that receive funding from the state. The governor signed the bill July 1.

Under the new law, full-time graduate tuition at the LSU veterinary school will increase by $750 per semester. In-state annual tuition and fees at the veterinary school are currently about $12,600.

At LSU, Southern University and the University of Louisiana, general full-time graduate tuition also is slated to go up by no more than $30 per semester, under the legislation. Masters of business administration programs face a $1,000 per semester increase.
