Atlanta - 7/31/06- Georgia lawmakers revised the state veterinary practice act with active support of the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association and the state board of veterinary medicine. Rep. Gene Maddox, DVM, sponsored the revision, which was signed into law by Gov. Sonny Perdue after clearing the legislature.

It clarifies the authority of the state board to regulate the degree of supervision required for veterinary technicians and assistants to perform specific tasks and extends a clause allowing employees with at least five years of experience assisting a licensed veterinarian to take the technician examination.
