Furry Friends names new director of shelter medicine

Furry Friends Adoption, Clinic & Ranch has appointed Victoria Koehler, DVM, as director of shelter medicine. With an extensive background, Koehler has worked in emergency medicine, community medicine/HVHQSN, and private practice, most recently working as a veterinarian at the Miami, Florida American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).

“We are thrilled to welcome somebody of Dr. Koehler’s caliber into the Furry Friends team. She will elevate the level of medicine and services we provide,” said Jason Gluck, executive director of Furry Friends, in an organizational release.¹

“It’s rare to find a vet that has both private practice experience and has extensive shelter experience. We are so glad the animals we rescue will now have access to such progressive care,” he added.

Koehler assisted with opening the ASPCA’s debut brick and mortar community veterinary center in Miami, where she managed a staff of 10. She received her Bachelor of Science from Tufts University and graduated from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.

According to the release,¹ Furry Friends rescues more than 1,000 animals annually in Palm Beach and Martin counties. Additionally, it offers a veterinary practice open to the public on-site at its Jupiter location.

“Joining the Furry Friends team is an excellent opportunity to continue helping as many animals as possible and to increase access to veterinary care, something that I am passionate about,” expressed Koehler.

Koehler’s first day at Furry Friends was March 21, 2022.
