Team members at the practice think their clients' pets are top dog, too, and they show it by selecting a pet from the appointment schedule as king or queen for a day. The team displays the patient's name on the reception counter and creates a goodie bag for the pet and its owner. The bags contain fun items, such as a leash, toys, treats, and a fun gift for the client, such as a notepad or calendar.

"Clients love the surprise and the attention," says Kelli Copeland, the hospital manager at VCA Tanglewood.
