The latest updates relating to animal care establishments and platforms.

In Ellis County, Texas, data center developer Compass Datacenters has proposed a $15 million grant to fund the construction of a new municipal animal shelter following the closure of the regional SPCA care center last year. Meanwhile, in Naperville, Illinois, Radiant Veterinary has opened a general practice clinic offering advanced diagnostic services, including an in-house human-grade helical CT scanner available on a referral or walk-in basis. And in Jacksonville, Florida, Chewy Vet Care has opened its first North Florida location, bringing the company's footprint in the state to 6 practices.

New $15 million animal shelter proposed for Ellis County, Texas, following SPCA closure

Earlier this summer, Ellis County, Texas, and data center developer Compass Datacenters announced a proposed $15 million grant agreement to fund the construction of a new municipal animal shelter, pending approval by the Ellis County Commissioners Court. The announcement comes more than a year after the SPCA of Texas closed its Ellis County regional care center on April 15, 2025, leaving local rescue volunteers to fill the gap. Compass, which has operated a data center campus in the county's Red Oak area for more than 6 years, said the proposed shelter reflects its broader commitment to the community.

"The volunteers held this together for a year on grit and goodwill," said Chris Crosby, CEO of Compass Datacenters, in a news release.1 "What Ellis County deserves now is something permanent. A real building, built right, that's still serving this community long after any of us are around to see it. We plan to be a 100-year neighbor to Ellis County, and this is part of what that looks like." County Judge John Wray said the closure created a significant gap in services and stretched community resources thin, adding that the proposed grant presents an opportunity to build something the county can rely on for generations.

Ellis County and Compass said they are collaborating to ensure the new facility meets community needs. Groundbreaking timelines and additional project details are expected to be shared as they are finalized.

Radiant Veterinary opens with in-house CT scanner in Naperville, Illinois

Radiant Veterinary opened on January 5, 2026, under the ownership of BreAnne Feldman Losik, DVM, offering general practice services alongside a suite of advanced diagnostics, including an in-house human-grade helical CT scanner. The CT is available on a referral or walk-in basis and is positioned as a more accessible and affordable alternative to specialty hospital CT services. Two full-time groomers are also on staff.

Some of the services the clinic offers include stem cell therapy and platelet-rich plasma (PRP), as well as soft tissue, orthopedic, and laparoscopic procedures and endoscopic services (bronchoscopy, cystoscopy, rhinoscopy, and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy). Digital radiographs are interpreted remotely by board-certified radiologists through Elite Veterinary Teleradiology, and the clinic partners with 4Paws Imaging to offer on-site abdominal ultrasounds and echocardiograms—both of which are co-owned by Feldman Losik.2 The practice works with CareCredit and Scratchpay and has plans to offer payment plans in the future.

According to Radiant Veterinary, the clinic was designed with a low-stimulation environment in mind, incorporating neutral tones, sound-reducing kennels, smart-glass doors, and an open-concept treatment area to help prevent stress and anxiety in patients. Exam rooms feature TVs for displaying radiographs and other diagnostic images.

The clinic is also integrated with Chewy's broader health services, including Chewy Pharmacy and Connect With a Vet.

"We're thrilled to welcome Jacksonville pet parents to Chewy Vet Care Beach Boulevard, our first practice in North Florida and sixth in the state," said Mita Malhotra, president of Chewy Health.3 "Our team designed every detail to make veterinary care feel more comforting, connected, and transparent—from refreshments on arrival, to calming exam rooms and digital tools that keep pet parents informed before, during, and after each visit."
