Alliance formed between North Dakota and KSU

BISMARCK, N.D.— Kansas State University (KSU) and North Dakota officials are planning to bring North Dakota residents to KSU to earn veterinary degrees without paying out-of-state fees.

Kansas plans to subsidize additional tuition costs for North Dakota students. Plans to reserve at least five spots a year at KSU for North Dakota residents are on the table, officials say. While the program is preliminary, costs were not known at presstime. However, money will be required from the Legislature in order for the program to excel.

The goal of the program is to get more large animal veterinarians in North Dakota's rural areas, says Wade Moser, executive director of North Dakota Veterinary Medical Association.

Cattle producers rely on local veterinarians, Moser says. "They are valuable partners in the business."
