
Laser disk ablation, a procedure for preventing thoracolumbar intervertebral disk herniation in dogs, has been developed and performed in more than 350 dogs at the Oklahoma State University Center for Veterinary Health Sciences.

Dr. Bartels is the McCasland Professor of Laser Surgery for the Department of Clinical Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Oklahoma State University (OSU). He also holds the Cohn Chair for Animal Care at OSU and is the director of the Sarkeys Surgical Laser Laboratory. He has published more than 70 articles and numerous book chapters involving surgery and the use of lasers in both man and animals.
