-- A Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association member and past president, Dr. Rene Carlson has put herself in the running for 2010 American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) president-elect.
Carlson, of Chetek, Wis., earned her DVM degree from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine and has worked as owner and director of the Animal Hospital of Chetek, an American Animal Hospital Association-accredited hospital, for the past 31 years.
Finding ways to educate future veterinarians more economically and efficiently is one of Carlson╒s top goals, she says, adding that she also would use the position to further the profession╒s efforts in safe food production, public health and biomedical research.
“I think of myself as someone who is open-minded and visionary for strategically planning for the future,” she says. “I think I could match just about anyone on passion and energy for this profession.”
Carlson has served on many committees during her membership with the WVMA, including visioning, public health and food safety, and public education and marketing. She was elected WVMA Veterinarian of the Year in 2001.
