What do you have in common with your dog? ...Youre a host.

March 21, 2016

Do your clients realize that they are sitting ducks for ticks, just like their pets? You and your team better tell emwho else will?

When it comes to nasty little ticks, pets and people can be in the same boat-both susceptible to tick-transmitted disease and unwittingly putting themselves in prime position for tick bites. Every hike in the woods, walk on a trail-even hours spent in the backyard-gives ticks a chance to infect your clients and their loved ones (both two- and four-legged). Use these tips from veterinary parasitologist Richard Gerhold, DVM, MS, PhD to start your clients' educational journey into the nasty world of ectoparasites.

Acute and chronic symptoms of Borrelia burgdorferi in people and dogs

Dr. Gerhold discusses new research done on erythema migrans, shifting leg lameness in dogs and more symptoms of Lyme disease.

What's the deal with deer?

So, are deer reservoir hosts the Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria, or is it small rodents? Here Dr. Gerhold discusses the role of deer and rodents in the generations of Lyme disease.

That “summertime flu” isn't what you think

Dr. Gerhold is betting that you've heard someone describe a summertime flu-here he explains the likelihood that that “flu” was the result of a tickborne disease.
