Morris Animal Foundation announced this week it is now accepting applications for its Veterinary Student Scholar program. This program encourages veterinary students to engage in mentor-guided research and inspires participating students to explore careers in animal health research.

According to an organizational release,1 the program is open to veterinary students currently enrolled in good standing at an accredited veterinary medicine program, but an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accreditation is not required. Each institution can nominate and submit 2 student project applications annually and if selected, the student receives $5,500 for a research project. The funded project must start within 6 months of the award notification, which will be in April 2024.

In recent years, the program helped students have invaluable research opportunities in different countries such as Australia, Brazil, Kenya, Indonesia, Rwanda, Mexico, and the United States. In the past, students could participate in research topics ranging from bladder cancer, one health, the health and behavior of cats in Uruguay, and more.2

To apply, students and the individual applying must create an account on the online application system Fluxx. Morris Animal Foundation asks anyone who submited an application to allow up to 2 business days for the foundation to review and validate the account.

Applications must be submitted to the Morris Animal Foundation by January 17, 2024, at 4:59 PM.
