Newest member of the dvm360® editorial advisory board, Dr Antonio Bowens, describes the rewarding aspects of veterinary medicine and the power of the human-animal bond
In this dvm360® interview, Antonio Bowens, DVM, veterinary neurology consultant for Bowens’ Locum Veterinary Neurology & Neurosurgery Services, and associate professor of practice (clinical neurology and neurosurgery) at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson, explains how working in veterinary medicine demonstrates first-hand just how cherished pets are by their owners.
The following is a partial transcript of the video.
Antonio Bowens, DVM: When I was in vet school, we had classes on it, but you really don't understand how strong the human-animal bond is until you start practicing. And then you realize, man, this patient that I just diagnosed with a brain tumor and performed brain surgery [on], the owner just got diagnosed with cancer or, the patient got the client through a bad divorce. It is just so many stories, but pets unlike people have unconditional love.
