University of Maine receives grant to help track animal diseases
The University of Maine received nearly $500,000 to test new systems to track animal diseases.

Orono, Maine — The University of Maine, Orono, received a $497,392 grant From the Maine Technology Institute, through the Maine Technology Asset Fund (MTAF). The grant will enable the state’s biotech companies to use the University’s Witter Center as a field test site for the development of diagnostic kits for the global market and will equip Maine veterinarians with technology to track animal diseases of economic importance.

The grant is part of a third round of MTAF awards totaling $7.25 million. The prize will be matched by more than $13 million in additional funds.
