Alan Robinson, BVSc, MRCVS, DMS, director of VetDynamics UK Ltd, explains what he refers to as the “veterinary myth.” There are two things at work when someone decides to become a veterinarian at an early age — altruism and the social contract. These attitudes are pervasive throughout society and continue during veterinary education.
But no one up talks about the exchange of money, Dr. Robinson says. It’s not until a veterinarian steps into work on his or her first day that anyone talks about making money.
