The free guidelines will help veterinary professionals diagnose and manage patients suffering from endocrine diseases
The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) announced the launch of its 2023 AAHA Selected Endocrinopathies of Dogs and Cats Guidelines. The new guidelines are a free resource to veterinary teams to help diagnose and manage endocrine diseases through reference tools and easy-to-follow processes.
“Endocrine diseases can present unique challenges to the busy practitioner, and that’s why the AAHA Selected Endocrinopathies Guidelines break down diagnosis and treatment using easy, step-by-step algorithms. We cover not only the common endocrine diseases in dogs and cats but also provide helpful plans for less common feline diseases, like hypothyroidism and hyperaldosteronism,” said Jessica Vogelsang, DVM, AAHA’s chief medical officer, in an organizational release.1
Because endocrine diseases are overwhelming and challenging to diagnose these patients, these guidelines aim to resolve that by providing practical, detailed plans to help veterinary professionals navigate these tricky diseases. According to the release,1 the new guidelines will provide up-to-date clinical tips for a variety of endocrine diseases to help teams remain informed and provide the best care for their patients.
Along with veterinary teams, pet owners can also use the guidelines to be involved in their pet's health while staying informed. Pet parents will have access to things to watch for as their pets age, questions they can ask the veterinary team, how to help improve the quality of life for their pets, and more.
“AAHA is thrilled to offer this streamlined approach for the veterinary team that cuts through the confusion and supports practitioners in doing their very best for their endocrine patients,” Vogelsang concluded.1
The 2023 AAHA Selected Endocrinopathies of Dogs and Cats Guidelines were created by veterinary experts and are based on the latest clinical experience and scientific research and supported by Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health, IDEXX, Merck, Zoetis, and Zomedica.
