Special drug bust uncovers 110 pounds of 'K'

Miami Beach, Fla. - A two-month undercover investigation ground to a halt when authorities raided an apartment in early August and seized 110 pounds of ketamine, also called, "Special K," according to the Associated Press (AP).

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration working in conjunction withMiami Beach police had been investigating sales of ketamine in the area.The seized drugs have a street value worth of about $4 million, accordingto DEA Special Agent Joe Kilmer. About $30,000 in cash was also seized.

Mercelo Colon, 36, and Robert Zavodny, 26, were charged with conspiracyto possess with intent to distribute ketamine and were being held withoutbail, according to AP.

Ketamine, known as "K" or "Cat Valium," is a controlledanimal anesthetic and bears similarities to phencyclidine hydrochloride,commonly known as PCP.
