Darwin’s Natural Pet Products has voluntarily recalled several lots of its Natural Selections meals for both dogs and cats due to the risk for Salmonella infection in pets and humans.
Pet owners who have handled the affected products are at risk for Salmonella infection and should seek medical help if they develop symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, watery or bloody diarrhea, fever, and headache. Darwin products are sold and shipped directly to the customer, and all recalled products were shipped to customers in September and early October.
The recall was issued after laboratory testing detected Salmonella in samples of these products. All customers who purchased affected products were notified of the recalls by email, with telephone follow-up when necessary, according to Darwin.
Although no public recall was issued, information regarding the affected products was posted to Darwin’s Facebook page. The company also wrote that it is re-evaluating its current process for testing products.
