Though any infectious agent can spread in a hospital, nosocomial agents are those that have evolved to be highly adapted to the hospital ecosystem. Certain strains of Staph aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Clostridium difficile, and others spread between patients and hospitals in both humans and animals.
