Practical Techniques in Soft Tissue & Orthopedic Surgery

Event

Date: December 12 - December 14, 2014

Description:

Course Description:   This 2.5 day course is designed to teach participants the technical aspects of a variety of soft tissue and orthopedic surgery procedures. Some ‘theory' will be included in the lectures but emphasis will be placed on the technical aspects used to perform each procedure thus maximizing time in the lab. Topics have been chosen that represent surgical conditions commonly seen in veterinary practice and include salivary gland resection, scrotal urethrostomy, chest drain placement, 10-minute gastropexy, 4-ligature splenectomy, diaphragmatic hernia repair, tracheostomy, anal sacculectomy, stifle arthrotomy, extracapsular stabilization for ruptured ACL, medial patellar luxation techniques, femoral head and neck excision and laryngeal tie-back. Specific feline surgery techniques will include perineal urethrostomy – a new approach, chest tube placement, intestinal anastomosis and femoral head and neck excision via a ventral approach. Video of clinical case material will be used extensively throughout the laboratory to help illustrate each technique.
