PMI Nutrition International initiated a voluntary recall of four varieties of its LabDiet and Mazuri feed products.
PMI Nutrition International, a division of St. Paul, Minn.-based Land O’Lakes Inc., initiated a voluntary recall of four varieties of its LabDiet and Mazuri feed products, according to a release by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued July 3. The products, formula No. 5025 Guinea Pig Diet 50, lot No. APR17122; formula No. 56A6 Mazuri Small Bird Maintenance 25, lot No. APR15123; formula No. 5MA2 Mazuri Primate Maintenance Biscuit 25, lot No. APR22122; and formula No. 5MD9 Mazuri Maned Wolf Diet 33, lot No. APR21122, have the potential for elevated vitamin D levels. The FDA says elevated vitamin D levels can be harmful to animals if fed for extended periods.
The company received a “small number” of customer complaints involving animal illness and small bird mortality. The feed products were manufactured at PMI’s Richmond, Ind., plant and distributed throughout the United States and to a few international customers. Dealers are notifying customers and retrieving the products from customers. PMI Nutrition International says the products should not be used and should be returned to the retail dealer for a full refund.
For more information, contact a local dealer or PMI Nutrition International customer service at (855) 863-0421, ext. 224, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., EDT, Monday through Friday.
