Pharmacy integrates with practice management platform

Mixlab and Instinct are collaborating to assist veterinarians with prescription ordering and workflow efficiency.

A veterinary pharmacy and a practice management platform are collaborating to simplify the process of prescribing medications and support veterinarians. Mixlab, a full-service veterinary pharmacy, and Instinct, a cloud-based veterinary practice management platform, recently launched a native integration that embeds pharmaceutical elements into the clinical workflow.1

The integration allows practices using Instinct to browse Mixlab’s pharmacy catalog and submit prescriptions directly within the clinical platform, and is immediately available to Instinct customers. Once prescriptions are submitted, status updates, from submission to fulfillment, are flowed back into Instinct in real time, according to Instinct.

The integration was beta-launched in late 2025. Since the launch, it has seen week-over-week growth, as new practices activate the service, including The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center (AMC) in New York, New York.

“The integration has been great. It has streamlined the process to prescribe and document, which has been much appreciated. It is also helpful to be able to see what common sizes and formulations are available by just searching in the prescribing menu,” Eileen Seage, VMD, DACVIM, a senior veterinarian and specialist in small animal internal medicine at the AMC, said in a news release.

As veterinary hospitals manage clinical complexity and administrative demands, workflow efficiency remains a key priority for both patient outcomes and team sustainability, according to Instinct. However, practices using the platform now also have access to Mixlab’s differentiated pharmacy experience, in addition to improving workflow efficiency. The pharmacy, which aims to make the prescription medication process seamless, reliable and stress-free for veterinarians and pet owners, offers a personalized, high-touch client experience, modern and proactive communication, fast services and free nationwide shipping.

Additionally, the integration eliminates dual logins and redundant data entry, supports complex specialty cases with access to advanced compounding, reduces administrative work to help teams focus on patient care. “Veterinary teams are under pressure to do more with less. By integrating Mixlab directly into Instinct, we’re removing friction from one of the most common clinical workflows. Our customers can now prescribe confidently and efficiently within the patient record, without breaking focus,” Elliott Garber, DVM, MPH, MS, DACVPM, vice president of strategic partnerships for Instinct, said in the release.

This partnership reflects an industry movement toward tighter integration across veterinary technology platforms, according to Instinct. While hospitals increasingly prioritize operational efficiency and connected systems, embedded pharmacy solutions are being used more frequently.

“This integration represents a meaningful expansion of Mixlab’s specialty footprint and aligns with our broader strategy to embed pharmacy directly into the systems veterinarians rely on every day,” Libby Loskota, chief revenue officer at Mixlab, said in a news release.1 “By partnering with Instinct, we’re advancing a more connected experience from diagnosis to delivery, helping teams move faster and stay focused on critical patient care.”
