PetMedic Urgent Care Vet Clinic to expand with new locations

January 29, 2022

The company is working to bridge the gap between family veterinarians and emergency hospitals in the New England region.

PetMedic Urgent Care Vet Clinic is doubling its after-hours veterinary services, growing to 4 locations in the New England region.

A new PetMedic Urgent Care Vet Clinic is expected to open in the spring of 2022 in Westborough, Massachusetts, in a shopping plaza at 1 Oak Street, according to a company press release. PetMedic Westborough is a partnership between Nir Ben-Ari, DVM, emergency veterinarian and PetMedic chief medical officer; and Rarebreed Veterinary Partners.

In an email to dvm360®, a PetMedic spokesperson said another new clinic is being built in Freeport, Maine. The 2 future locations will join existing PetMedic clinics in Watertown, Massachusetts, and Portland, Maine, which were opened in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

"PetMedic is the missing piece in the animal health ecosystem. We are taking on evening and weekend cases for family veterinarians and reducing the strain on veterinary ERs so they can prioritize the treatment of the most critically ill patients. We are also taking worry out of the equation for pet owners who are questioning whether their pet's treatment can wait,” said William Griffin, VMD, president of PetMedic, in a company press release. Our high-quality, convenient and affordable care option is the perfect choice for those in-between times."

Modeled after human urgent care facilities, PetMedic offers coordinated, convenient, and compassionate veterinary care for non-life-threatening conditions, according to the company. The practice operates after regular business hours and on weekends and is designed to complement pet owners' family veterinarians and alleviate the case overload at emergency hospitals.

PetMedic clinics are staffed by an experienced emergency medicine team with access to a modern surgical suite, laboratory, digital X-ray, ultrasound, and cutting-edge software that allows for an efficient workflow for team members, according to the company release.

PetMedic does not perform routine services provided by family veterinary practices, such as wellness visits, or administer vaccinations. Pet owners can make same-day appointments conveniently online.
