Aim to grow its dog training program to offer pet owners more perks

Pet Paradise, a pet health care provider of overnight boarding, day camp, grooming, dog training and NewDay Veterinary Care, has named James Powers as director of canine behavior. In this position, he will develop and expand Pet Paradise’s dog training program and manage all regional lead canine trainers. Prior, Powers was the regional resort manager and oversaw the daily operations of 9 resorts.

In early 2023, Pet Paradise teamed up with Top Tier K9 to create a board-and-train experience delivered by team members willing to undergo an intense 3-month training program to become certified trainers to train dogs. Currently there are about 40 certified Pet Paradise trainers and the program is available in nearly 30 locations.1 The dog training occurs in the resort environment with an on-site veterinarian and live-in pet care specialist.

“It is an honor to lead our new dog training program that provides a best-in-class training experience ending in positive results,” said Powers.1 “Studies have proven that a well-trained dog leads a healthy and happier life. At Pet Paradise, the health of our pets is always a top priority and those in our training program are no different.”

Pet Paradise’s board-and-train model consists of 1-on-1 training sessions that provide dogs with repetition and consistency that remains in their long-term memory. Dogs learn to understand and respond to basic commands, appropriately walk on a leash, and eliminate unwanted behaviors. Pet parents also get access to detailed training videos, 30-minute sessions with their pet and a dedicated trainer, boarding in a climate-controlled suite, and more.1

“Under the board-and-train model, it’s amazing to see how much progress dogs can make in just a few short weeks,” said Pet Paradise vice president of resort operations Jason Duffy.1 “Our trainers are patient, consistent and provide positive reinforcement for desired behaviors. The bonds between the trainers and the pets are especially important as they build trust and lead to well-trained, happy dogs.”

Pet Paradise Dog Training is now available in 29 resorts across the US. It most recently expanded to these resorts1: Lake Buena Vista, FL; Sanford, FL; Naples, FL; Bonita Springs, FL; Lake Norman, NC; Cary, NC; Chesterfield, VA; San Antonio, TX; Cedar Park, TX; Georgetown, TX; Rio Rancho, NM; Atlanta Airport, GA; Peachtree City, GA; Snellville, GA; and Birmingham, AL.

Pet Paradise aims to open between 6 and 8 new locations from Central Florida to Tennessee to Texas this year for a total of 60 resorts across the US by the end of the year. The new board-and-train program will further expand into additional states and locations.
