The myth of Pandora's box

According to Greek mythology, the gods created Pandora, the first woman. The gods gave her a box said to contain gifts, which she was never to open. But curiosity got the best of her, and one day she did open the box, releasing evils such as sorrow, sickness, and pestilence on the world. She closed it quickly, seeing the trouble she had unleashed, but one thing remained in the box—hope.
