Merck Manuals recognizes importance of One Health concept
Unveiled new online resource on One Health for healthcare professionals plus those in other scientific, environmental, and health industries
Merck Manuals, a comprehensive online medical reference, has released a microsite, MerckManuals.com/OneHealth, where visitors can read commentary, watch videos, and access relevant One Health resources.
One Health is the idea that the health of humans, animals, and the environment is inextricably connected, so it promotes the collaboration and communication of medical and veterinary professionals along with those in other scientific, health, and environmental realms.
“The One Health approach bridges the gap between human and animal medicine,” stated Melissa Adams, director of marketing and brand awareness for Merck Manuals, in a company release.1 “Moreover, it recognizes the role the environment plays in promoting well-being.”
Benefits of One Health integration include1:
- Prevention of outbreaks of zoonotic diseases
- Improvement in food safety
- Reduction of antimicrobial-resistant infections
- Protection of biodiversity and conservation
- Enhancement of the human/animal bond
- Advocacy of global health
Merck Manual prioritizes sharing accurate medical information while One Health stresses collaboration, making their missions in line.
