COURSE SUMMARYThis interactive course will focus on the use of feline-friendly handling techniques that will reduce the problems associated with anxious or fearful cats, thereby increasing productivity, safety and job satisfaction for veterinary staff too.We will discuss handling strategies that can be tailored to the individual cat and situation, and general changes to the environment to help most feline patients adapt better in the clinic. We will also explore the advice to be given to prepare cats and owners in advance of visits; as well as how to reintegrate cats into the home following a hospital stay.LEARNING OUTCOMESBy the end of this module, successful candidates will be able to: Understand the reasoning behind the importance of low stress handling of cats Know and apply principles of low stress cat handling, pre-emptive measures and trouble shooting within the practice Be able to advise clients on helpful techniques to reduce cat stress before, during and after travel to the practiceLEARNING & TEACHING METHODS Guided research of areas relevant to this topic The use of discussion forums to share experiences and solutions to problems Creation of new protocols to take with you and assist you in the future Reflection on work to help you progress professionally Full IT and tutor support throughout, with feedback on your work on completion of the moduleTUTOR Linda Ryan DipAVN (Medical) VTS (Oncology) RVNLindas interest in training and behaviour has evolved over her career and in 2012, she became one of a handful of U.K. graduates of the Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training and Behaviour. This means that Linda has obtained a comprehensive education in animal training and behaviour management, and has been rigorously assessed and certified to be an excellent clicker training teacher.She is now one of a very small number of KPA-CTPs practicing in the U.K. Linda has also subsequently gained a Certificate of Excellence for completion of Susan Friedmans Living & Learning with Animals Course for Professionals (2012 & 2013). She is a proud member of the Guild of Force Free Pet Professionals, is an assessed Assoc Pet Dog Trainers member, and a Puppy Start Right instructor.
