Lap of Love adds access to Veterkin Society membership for veterinarians in nontraditional roles
New Lap of Love–Veterkin partnership gives nontraditional veterinarians affordable medication, diagnostics, equipment, and perks to care for their own pets.
For veterinarians working outside traditional clinic settings, access to medications, diagnostics, and other professional resources may look different than it does in brick-and-mortar practice. In December, Lap of Love and The Veterkin Society announced a partnership aiming to provide those resources to veterinarians in nontraditional roles.
Lap of Love has added membership to The Veterkin Society as a benefit for its veterinarians. The partnership provides Lap of Love veterinarians with access to The Veterkin Society, a membership organization created for licensed veterinarians who primarily care for their own pets outside conventional clinical settings.
In a statement, Mary Gardner, DVM, CEO and cofounder of Lap of Love, said the partnership is intended to streamline access to resources for the company’s veterinarians.
“We’re proud to include The Veterkin Society as part of our benefits,” Gardner said in a news release by Veterkin Society.1 “This partnership brings our doctors streamlined access to preventive care, diagnostics, and other professional resources that enhance the care for their own pets.”
According to the announcement, The Veterkin Society was founded by Elianne Mimoun, DVM, after selling her veterinary practice in Baltimore, Maryland, in 2021.
The organization was created to address access challenges veterinarians may face after leaving traditional practice ownership or working outside brick-and-mortar clinics.
“After leaving ownership, I found myself without access to the medications, diagnostics, and support I once took for granted,” Mimoun said.1 “I knew I wasn’t alone. The Veterkin Society was built to ensure that all veterinarians, no matter their role, can continue to care for the animals they love—without unnecessary barriers or inflated costs.”
The Veterkin Society is designed for licensed veterinarians working outside standard clinic models, including relief veterinarians, in-home euthanasia providers, veterinarians on medical or maternity leave, stay-at-home parents, academics, researchers, and professionals in government, industry, or sales.
According to the release, membership includes discounted access to diagnostic testing, prescription and over-the-counter veterinary diets, at-cost pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals, vaccines, rental access to medical equipment, an online medical records portal, and discounted pet insurance through Pumpkin.
Available diagnostics through the program include wellness panels, mineral analysis, allergy and dermatology testing, toxin testing, diagnostic cancer panels, gastrointestinal disease testing, and other specialty applications, according to the announcement.
The organization states that members may treat up to 20 pets per membership, limited to their own pets and those of immediate family members and close friends.
Membership is available to all licensed US veterinarians, according to the release.
