Keele University announces new veterinary teaching hospital

Press Release

The new 24-hour teaching hospital is set to open this fall in the United Kingdom

Keele University, located in Keele, England, announced it will be opening a new veterinary teaching hospital this fall. The new hospital, Garden Vets at Keele, will be a 20,000 square feet state of facility and will open in partnership with Garden Vets.

According to the release,1 the new hospital will have state-of-the-art technologies and equipment to keep most of the care for small animal clients to be coordinated on-site. The veterinary team at the new hospital will focus on the full lifecycle of small companion animals through preventative care and education.

"Students will be fully embedded in the clinical and business operations of the center and are going to further benefit from advanced experimental learning and research through technology such as virtual reality and immersive simulations. The new development at Keele perfectly complements the extensive clinical skills, farm animal resources, and expertise at Harper Adams University, providing students with the combined excellence of both institutions," Matt Jones, BSc (Hons), BVSc PhD, MRCVS, head of The Harper and Keele Veterinary School.1

Students who are in the 5-year Veterinary Medicine and Surgery degree at the Harper and Keele Veterinary School, which welcomed its first class of veterinary students in 2020,2 will gain extensive clinical professional experience. The new facility will also give students the chance to interact with and learn from the new faculty.

“This is a unique development in that it has been fully designed to a contemporary educational and research specification through close collaboration between the Vet School and Garden Vets at Keele. It is great to have a purpose-built primary care-focused teaching and research hospital here in North Staffordshire,” expressed Jones.1

The brand-new facility is slated to open this fall and will create over 45 full and part-time jobs.
