Humanimal Trust drives collaboration between vets, doctors, and researchers so that all benefit from equal medical progress

Joe Bailey is appointed as the new chief executive for Humanimal Trust, effective November 2022. Before this role, Bailey was the Head of Farming, Welfare, and Wellbeing for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) for the last 7 years. In total, Bailey has over 20 years of experience in the animal welfare sector.1

Looking forward to her new role, Bailey said in an organizational release1: “Although I feel honored to be appointed as CEO, it's not the title that is important, it's the opportunity to be who I am, living and working my values, and being part of the Humanimal Trust vision alongside dedicated and passionate people.”

She continued, “The pandemic has given us a massive opportunity to show how a One Medicine approach will enable us to be stronger together and create a sustainable future for us all. Our priorities must be centered around awareness, education and raising funds to achieve our objectives and maximize our impact.”1

Humanimal Trust was founded in 2014 by Noel Fitzpatrick, known globally as a ground-breaking orthopedic-neuro veterinary surgeon. In a One Health effort, Humanimal Trust drives collaboration between vets, doctors, and researchers so that all humans and animals benefit from sustainable and equal medical progress, but not at the expense of an animal’s life. The organization believes and advocates that this will lead to progressively fewer laboratory animal tests until one day they become obsolete.1

Chair of Humanimal Trust’s board of trustees, Professor Roberto La Ragione welcomed Bailey to the charity, saying: “On behalf of all Humanimal Trust trustees, staff and volunteers, I would like to welcome Joe to the team and wish her well in the challenges ahead as we seek to build a movement for One Medicine together. Joe’s experience speaks for itself, and I have no doubt that her understanding of and passion for our purpose will help take Humanimal Trust to the next level.”1
