Total cost of Dr. Zand's hospital, slightly more than $100,000, included $18,000 for the building site, about $65,000 for construction of the 3,000-square-foot building, and $20,000 for cages and hospital equipment.

Under new management, the hospital has gotten a progressive facelift since the husband-and-wife Drs. Mey and Bryan Haag bought it, with a new blue color on the awning. The old privacy wall is also gone. The best new addition, though, is the brand-new sign. “People have said they saw the new sign and never noticed us before,” says Dr. Haag.
