James Noxon, DVM, DACVIM: The thing about dermatology is that dermatology problems are the Top 4 reasons on the Top 10 list of reasons that dogs go to veterinarians. They are 2 of the Top 10 reasons why cats go to veterinarians. So, they’re common problems. Veterinarians know that, and they appreciate that. There’s a real art to managing those cases. They’re long-term cases. They’re chronic. They’re recurring. If you want instant gratification, be a surgeon. If you want to deal with a chronic, frustrating problems, quality of life issues, then dermatology is perfect.
