Golden Pet Brands acquires Petsource facility in Seward, Nebraska
Golden Pet Brands, a Los Angeles, California–based pet food manufacturer, completed its acquisition of the Petsource pet food production facility in Seward, Nebraska, which closed on May 8, 2026. The acquisition brings Golden Pet Brands to two US manufacturing facilities. According to the company, the Seward site will produce pet food and treats exclusively for the company's portfolio brands, which include Dr. Marty Pets and Ultimate Pet Nutrition.
The 170,000-sq ft facility was originally built in 2019 and expanded in 2021–2022. It holds Safe Quality Food certification and is registered with the FDA, according to Golden Pet Brands.1
"The Petsource team has built a high-quality production operation in Seward, and we are pleased to welcome approximately 100 of their employees to the Golden Pet Brands family," Lucas Koele, vice president of manufacturing at Golden Pet Brands, said in a company news release announcing the acquisition.1
Town & Country Animal Hospital earns Fear Free Practice Certification in Fairfax, Virginia
Town & Country Animal Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia, has become the second veterinary practice in the city to earn Fear Free Practice Certification, and one of only a few across the broader DC, Maryland, and Virginia area to hold the hospital-wide designation. Practice Certification requires every member of a veterinary team to be individually Fear Free Certified, in addition to environmental and operational changes designed to reduce fear, anxiety, and stress in patients.
Changes already in place include dedicated feline exam rooms so cats bypass waiting areas with dogs, species-specific exam areas, low-stress handling techniques, and a pre-visit questionnaire to help staff prepare for individual patients.
"As veterinarians, we go into this profession because we love animals. When pets come in and they're scared or don't want to be near us, it defeats that purpose,” said Courtney Katsur, VMD, veterinarian at Town & Country Animal Hospital.2
The certification applies to Town & Country only. The two other practices in the network, Columbia Pike Animal Hospital and Emergency Center and Animal Clinic of Clifton, have not yet received the designation.
Chewy Vet Care to open additional locations in Colorado Springs, Colorado
Chewy Vet Care is expanding in Colorado Springs with two new practice openings this month. Chewy Vet Care Creekwalk, located at 100 E Cheyenne Rd Suite 100, opened May 8, 2026. Chewy Vet Care North Academy, at 7395 N Academy Blvd, is scheduled to open at the end of May. The 2 locations are the fifth and sixth Chewy Vet Care practices in Colorado, joining existing sites in Boulder, downtown Denver, Littleton, and Highlands Ranch.
Both Colorado Springs locations include a treatment viewing window through which clients can observe care being provided, personalized room monitors displaying pet and visit information, and integration with Chewy's online Pet Portal for access to medical records and prescriptions.
“We’re excited to bring Chewy Vet Care to Colorado Springs with two new practices designed around the needs of pets, pet parents, and veterinary teams,” said Mita Malhotra, president of Chewy Health, in an email to dvm360. “Colorado is home to a passionate community of pet parents, and we look forward to expanding access to convenient, high-quality veterinary care with the personalized experience customers know and love from Chewy.”
