Prednisone is effective at lowering serum calcium concentrations by promoting renal excretion, but it would be best to diagnose the cause of the hypercalcemia first in order to treat appropriately. If Harley has lymphoma, initiating corticosteroid therapy now may also make it difficult to make that diagnosis.
