Signalment

Felicia is a 9-year-old 10-lb spayed female domestic shorthaired cat.

History

Her owner has noticed that Felicia is hungry all the time and has lost weight. No vomiting or diarrhea has been noted. Her owner is unsure of Felicia’s water intake.

She is an indoor kitty; there is one other cat in the house that is also strictly indoors and is not showing any clinical problems. There is no previous history of illness and Felicia is not on any medications. Both cats eat a commercial senior diet.

Physical examination findings

• BAR, T- 101.2 F, P – 200, RR – purring

• Oral examination – gums pale pink, moderate dental disease

• Unkempt coat

• BCS 4/9, has lost 2 lb since the last visit one year ago

• Rest of examination is unremarkable
