Anaesthesia Monitoring ~ Getting the Basics Right

Event

Date: June 03 - June 24, 2019

Description:

This course will highlight the importance of basic hands-on monitoring of patients undergoing anaesthesia. It will help you gain the tools to monitor patients effectively and safely, recognise and pre-empt any potential problems, and the actions to take to avoid or rectify them.Knowing your individual patient (prior to drug administration) is key to be able to monitor your patient effectively. With this in mind, we will discuss the importance of pre-anaesthetic assessment and why the veterinary nurse role in this area is important in improving patient safety. The importance and use of anaesthetic records and recording monitoring information will be explored along with the advantages of the implementation of safety checklists. We will explore how you can gain more information from the monitoring of parameters such as heart rate, pulse, respiratory rate and characteristics, eye position etc. We will highlight the different characteristics that may present under anaesthesia, depending on the anaesthetic and analgesic agents used.We will touch on fluid therapy under anaesthesia, and look at current best practice. This course will concentrate on dogs and cats. This course is accredited by the AVA.
