Advanced Laparoscopic/Thorascopic Surgery

The goal of this advanced course is to elevate the surgeon with skills to perform the most advanced procedures including recently introduced surgeries and modifications of standard MIS. Teaching formats will include lectures, case presentations, dry labs of psychomotor techniques including intracorporeal suturing. Sunday will be a full day of MIS procedures in the wet lab. *Basic endoscopic surgery skills are required for this course. If you do not have experience with basic endoscopic surgery, please refer to the Basic Soft Tissue Endoscopy course offered on July 21-22, 2018. This hands-on training includes laparoscopy (gastropexy (3 ways), calculi removal, spay, intracorporeal and extracorporeal knot tying, excision biopsy of left medial iliac lymph node for cancer staging, cholecystectomy, adrenalectomy, and enterostomy feeding tube placement) and thoracoscopy (pericardium, lung biopsy with endo-loop, lobectomy with stapler, thoracic duct clip, lymph node staging & dissection, chylothorax surgery (TDL, CCL, pericardial resection), extracorporeal knot tying about intercostal artery while in ventral recumbency or of internal thoracic when in dorsal recumbency.) New techniques will include single port (SILS) approaches, operating scopes, use of barbed suture, multiple approaches to urinary calculi removal, hybrid approach for thoracoscopy to resect lung, and near-infrared technology.This 2-day course offers 15 CE hours
