Kenichiro Yagi, RVT, VTS (ECC), VTS (SAIM), MS: One [common repsirary emergency] would be something like an animal that is [experiencing] congestive heart failure, which leads to pulminary edema, or fluid leaking into the lungs. [This] prevents [the pet] from being able to breathe very [well] because the lung's tissues don't function when it's filled with fluid.
