Scholarships aim to reward diversity and diverse career paths.

Second- and third-year veterinary students are invited to apply for the Zoetis Veterinary Student Scholarship Program from Oct. 1 to Dec. 2. In its fifth year, the program will offer 350 scholarships of $2,000 each through a partnership between Zoetis and the American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF).

Scholarships will be awarded based on academic excellence and financial need but also to address what Zoetis says are deficiencies in the veterinary profession. “The scholarship will focus on meeting ongoing needs of the veterinary profession such as diversity, sustainability, leadership and fostering diverse careers paths in veterinary medicine,” a release states.

“We’re looking for outstanding veterinary students to embrace the diversity of our changing world, as well as the health and research needs of our society. That’s what this scholarship is about,” says Vanessa Mariani, director of academic and professional affairs at Zoetis. “The past four years of this program have been a huge success. We awarded scholarships to students from a myriad of socioeconomic backgrounds, studying across a diverse array of species and veterinary disciplines.”

Zoetis will provide a total of approximately $700,000 in student scholarships to eligible students in colleges of veterinary medicine in the U.S. and the Caribbean. Eligibility is subject to the review and confirmation by individual schools and the AVMF Grants and Awards Committee.
