What Zodiac Animal Are You?

January 31, 2017
Kerry Lengyel

What Chinese zodiac animal are you, and what does that say about your personality?

Chinese people around the world celebrated their New Year on Saturday, and the Year of the Rooster has officially begun.

Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year, is based off the lunisolar Chinese calendar. That’s why the date on which it falls changes from year to year.

Each year is characterized by one of 12 different zodiac animals in the Chinese zodiac. Your birth year corresponds to a specific zodiac animal, and each animal predicts your personality as well as your lucky signs.

Read on to find out whether your zodiac animal reflects your true personality.

Years: 2017, 2005, 1993, 1981, 1969

You are honest, energetic, intelligent, flexible, and confident. But the year of your sign is believed to be one of the unluckiest years of your life. You are hardworking, resourceful, confident, and talented. You are very popular with people because you are a very engaging speaker. You are the happiest around people or in the spotlight, but you are also seen as vain and arrogant because of your tendency to brag about achievements.

Years: 2018, 2006, 1994, 1982, 1970

You are loyal, honest, amiable, kind, and cautious. You will do everything for the person you believe to be the most important. You are not good at communication because it is very difficult for you to convey your thoughts to others, which makes others see you as stubborn. You are a good-natured person who is always ready to help others.

Years: 2019, 2007, 1995, 1983, 1971

You are diligent, compassionate, and generous. Your concentration is like no other—when you set a goal you devote everything you have to achieving it. You rarely choose to seek help from others, and you also refuse to give others a helping hand. You are calm when faced with trouble or a difficult task, and you always feel responsible to finish what you have started.

Years: 2008, 1996, 1984, 1972, 1960

You are quick-witted, resourceful, smart, and curious. Your strong intuition allows you to adapt to almost any environment you are thrown into. You tend to try anything and everything and end up becoming very skilled at most things. But you lack courage as well as leadership and command skills. You usually sleep late into the day, just as the nocturnal mouse does.

Years: 2009, 1997, 1985, 1973, 1961

You are diligent, dependable, strong, and determined. You are a patriot and reflect many of the traditional characteristics of conservatives. You are ambitious and can achieve your goals with consistent effort. You are not easily swayed or influenced by those around you, but you have poor communication skills and are extremely stubborn with your beliefs.

Years: 2010, 1998, 1986, 1974, 1962

You are brave, confident, and unpredictable. While you are well liked by others and have a charming personality, you are likely to be irritable and impetuous also. You are authoritative and rarely go back on what you have said. Your confidence allows you to be a great leader. You don’t like to prepare, but you can handle anything that comes your way.

Years: 2011, 1999, 1987, 1975, 1963

You are quiet, elegant, gentle, and alert. Even so, you may be overly discreet and stubborn. You are likable because of the sincere and polite way you treat others. You are persistent in seeking solutions when faced with trouble and are usually successful when doing so. Your pure heart allows you to be faithful toward others but reluctant to reveal your whole self.

The Dragon

Years: 2012, 2000, 1988, 1976, 1964

You are confident and intelligent but also seen as a hothead with a sharp tongue. This animal is the most powerful beast in the Chinese zodiac and was once believed to be able to control everything in the world. Your dominance, tenacity, and courage make you unafraid of challenges or risky endeavors.

Years: 2013, 2001, 1989, 1977, 1965

You are wise, intelligent, and the most enigmatic animal in the Chinese zodiac. Your intuitiveness allows you to communicate well even when saying very little. You are a great thinker and are determined always to accomplish your goals because you hate to fail. You are very materialistic and love to possess the best of the best. You prefer working alone and because of this become easily stressed.

Years: 2014, 2002, 1990, 1978, 1966

You are active, energetic, and extremely animated. You love being in a crowd of people. Your sense of humor and cunningness allow you to be the happiest when you’re on stage in front of an audience. But you tend to lack real confidence and are a little bit self-centered.

Years: 2015, 2003, 1991, 1979, 1967

You are calm, gentle, shy, and mild-mannered. Your sympathetic attitude allows you to acquire professional skills very well. While you may seem gentle on the surface, you are tough on the inside with strong resilience and defensive instincts. You prefer to be in a group of people, but not the center of attention. You are reserved and quiet because you enjoy spending most of your time in your thoughts.

Years: 2016, 2004, 1992, 1980, 1968

You are sharp, smart, and have a magnetic personality. You are also very mischievous, curious, and clever. You enjoy playing practical jokes on others but usually don’t have bad intentions when doing so. You are a fast learner and an opportunist. Your eccentric nature attracts some, but many don’t trust your sly and restless nature.
