Virbac launches nutritional line for spayed and neutered pets

February 7, 2022
dvm360 Staff

The Veterinary HPM Pet Nutrition line offers formulas specifically for spayed and neutered pets to address decreasing metabolism rates associated with these procedures and help prevent obesity.

Virbac has released Veterinary HPM Pet Nutrition—a unique nutritional line specially crafted to meet the needs of spayed and neutered dogs and cats—in the US market.

"We've seen remarkable success with this product in European markets and believe in its ability to provide pet owners with the best resource for their pet's health," said François Fournier, CEO, and president of Virbac North America, in a company release.

"We're thrilled to bring Veterinary HPM Pet Nutrition to the market in the United States, as it provides pet owners with a diet designed to meet the specific needs of their spayed or neutered dogs and cats,” he added.

Each of the 6 formulas of Veterinary HPM Pet Nutrition available is customized to meet specific nutritional needs by species, age, and size:

According to the release, approximately 90% of US pets are spayed or neutered. Though these procedures have their benefits, they also can cause changes in metabolism that can put dogs and cats at a substantially increased risk for obesity. However, a majority of spayed and neutered pets continue eating the same diet following the procedure, when it is important to adjust their diet.

Veterinary HPM Pet Nutrition will be distributed directly through veterinarians and Virbac's iVet.com e-commerce platform, allowing pet parents to purchase the products directly and ship them right to their homes.
