Veterinarians missing on hiking trip found with no injuries

Men doing well and have been reunited with families.

Veterinarians Neal Peckens and Jason Hiser were found with no injuries by searchers at approximately 3:30 p.m. MST Monday. The men are doing well according to the National Park Service. The hikers, who were reported missing Oct. 12 after a planned hike in Glacier National Park, were flown out of the Montana backcountry to meet family members.

Hospital Administrator der Au Michael of Broad Street Veterinary Hospital where Hiser practices says his coworkers were elated by the news. “Everybody was just ecstatic that they had been found and were safe, she says. “If any two could get through that it was these two.”

The receptionist for Chesapeake Veterinary Cardiology Associates where Peckens practices says his co-workers can’t wait to see him and there will be a long line for hugs once he returns.

The news that the men had been found alive and well also spread on their veterinary practices’ Facebook pages. “Neal and Jason have been found safe!!!!!!!!!!!! We have no further details but will keep you posted. THANK YOU for your support!!!!!!!!!!!!!” read a Chesapeake Veterinary Cardiology Associates post.

Relief of the good news continued on the Broad Street Veterinary Hospital Facebook page. “We would like to extend our deepest appreciation and thanks to everyone for all of the support and prayers. A special thanks goes out to the search and rescue teams that risked their lives to bring our Jason and Neal back to us. Words will never be able to express how much this meant to each and every one of us at Broad Street Vet!”

Michael says the Broad Street clients have been fabulous throughout the ordeal. “The support and the power of prayer--it’s just unbelievable. People are bringing by food and all kinds of goodies now.” The Broad Street employees are getting ready to hang a large banner in celebration of Hiser’s return.
