Tuskegee University appoints new dean

Tuskegee, Ala. ? Dr. Tsegaye Habtemariam was appointed dean of Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine and Nursing and Allied Health in January.

TUSKEGEE, ALA. — Dr. Tsegaye Habtemariam was appointed dean of Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine and Nursing and Allied Health in January.

He has been with the university since 1999, serving as associate dean for research and graduate studies, director of the Center for Computational Epidemiology Bioinformatics and Risk Analysis, director of biomedical information management systems and professor of epidemiology and biomedical informatics.

"I am honored to hold this position and excited to utilize my training and skills in the profession to benefit the college," says Habtemariam of his position. "I have been involved with veterinary medicine and education for the majority of my career. I strongly believe in the value of education and continue with my own education now."

Habtemariam says he enjoys being part of student's education and helping them become part of a respectful, important profession.

"One of the best parts of my job is helping students achieve their goals and being part of the educational process that led them to the profession," he adds.

Habtemariam earned his DVM from Colorado State University and a master's of preventive veterinary medicine and a doctorate in philosophy from the University of California-Davis.

Habtemariam served on various editorial boards of scientific journals, received many honors and awards and is the president of the World Association of Veterinary Educators.
