How reliable are bilirubin reagent pads in dogs and cats?

“Bilirubin reagent pads may be unreliable as screening tests in dogs because of a high percentage of false-positive and false-negative results in this species. In contrast, positive bilirubin test results in cats are usually indicative of some underlying disease.”
