Pets Best, a division of General Fire and Casualty Co., offers a free pet recovery system for veterinary clients.

Owners can qualify for a peel-off sticker listing a toll-free number that adheres to a pet tag so lost animals can be reunited with their owners.

The program is administered by Smart ID, a provider of non-database recovery programs for pets and personal items through automated phone or Web systems.

Pets Best anticipates being able to offer the program in all 50 states by the end of the year.
