Products+Services360: Pet diet comparison tool, dual-species cardiac biomarker test, and more
The latest products and innovative technology in veterinary medicine.
This edition of Products+Services360, published in our September/October magazine issue, features a shelf-stable plasma product for canine emergencies, an in-clinic cardiac biomarker test for cats and dogs, a refrigerated single-protein dog food, and a searchable database for comparing pet diets. Also included are a clinical decision-support tool that handles dosing, differentials, and SOAP notes, and a new lineup of AI-enabled smart feeders.
Shelf-stable canine freeze-dried plasma
Canine freeze-dried plasma (cFDP) by Mantel Technologies is a shelf-stable product for the treatment of hypovolemia and control of hemorrhage in dogs. Unlike traditional plasma requiring frozen storage, the product can be stored in a cool, dry environment and reconstituted with sterile water for intravenous administration in emergencies. Each kit yields the equivalent of approximately 250 mL of canine plasma. It is available by prescription through a licensed veterinarian.
Dual-species point-of-care cardiac biomarker test
The Catalyst proBNP Test by IDEXX is an in-clinic test for N-terminal pro–B-type natriuretic peptide, a biomarker used to assess heart disease in cats and dogs. It runs on the company's Catalyst platform, which is designed to deliver laboratory-level accuracy with immediate results. The test supports scenarios including identifying subclinical heart disease in cats, informing preoperative risk assessment, and differentiating cardiac from noncardiac causes of respiratory distress. Results integrate into VetConnect PLUS with built-in interpretive guidance.
Fresh single-protein dog food
Hill's Science Diet Single Protein Dog Food Rolls by Hill's Pet Nutrition are refrigerated, steam-cooked, single animal protein recipes for healthy adult dogs. Each recipe is complete and balanced and, according to the company, highly digestible to support gut health. The rolls also contain omega-6 fatty acids and vitamin E for healthy skin and coat. They can be fed as the sole diet or used as a mix-in or topper, and come in 3 recipes.
Pet diet database and comparison tool for veterinary professionals
VetsBowl is an online clinical resource that helps veterinary professionals navigate thousands of over-the-counter and prescription pet diets. Users can identify diets based on a patient's diagnosis, nutritional needs, or specific dietary attributes, then directly compare available options. The platform also includes a comprehensive diet database, nutrient calculators, educational resources, and nutrition news, with the goal of making complex dietary information easier to access, interpret, and apply to individualized patient care.
Dosing, diagnosis, and SOAP note tool for veterinary practices
Everfur Clinical Intelligence by Strand Health Inc is a decision-support tool for veterinary medicine built on more than 50,000 publications. It provides species-specific, breed-aware drug dosing calculated from verified pharmacological data rather than generated by artificial intelligence (AI), along with differential diagnosis pathways with treatment options in gold standard, moderate, and budget-conscious tiers. It generates AI-enhanced SOAP notes from voice or text that flag missing actions and export to the practice information management system. According to the company, the platform is compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and is veterinarian-client-patient relationship aware.
Next-generation smart pet feeder series
The Granary 2 series by Petlibro is a smart feeding lineup with 4 new models combining behavioral insight, personalized schedules, and health-minded tracking. Features include AI-powered camera technology capable of identifying cats, smart refill mode, personalized pet access, abnormal eating alerts, and tracking that can weigh food to the gram. The lineup includes the Granary 2, Granary 2 Vision, Granary 2 Vision Duo for multi-pet homes, and the Granary 2 X.
