PRODUCT NEWS: VetBiotek Launches Nutraceutical for Joint, Skin Health

June 4, 2018
Kerry Lengyel

Omega-3 fatty acids, hyaluronic acid, and a proprietary collagen blend are the primary ingredients in a new nutraceutical aimed at improving joint and skin health in dogs.

VetBiotek, a company focused on developing and manufacturing dermatologic and nutritional supplements for companion animals, has announced the launch of VetOMEGA 950—a soft chew that helps support joint health and manage skin conditions in dogs.

This proprietary and patent-protected nutraceutical contains:

  • 950 mg of omega-3 fatty acids
  • 10 mg of undenatured type II collagen (UC-II)

  • 10 mg of high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid

An estimated 60% of dogs over 7 years of age are affected by osteoarthritis (OA), with best practices calling for a multimodal management approach, including weight management, nutritional supplementation, exercise, physical therapy, and pharmacologic management.

“A significant benefit of VetOMEGA 950 is the advanced soft chew technology which is extremely palatable and is a complete formula for the management of joint degradation and skin care,” Vincent King, vice president of sales for VetBiotek, said.

“Based on strength of evidence for the use of nutraceuticals in the treatment of OA in dogs, omega-3 fatty acids are rated the highest,” Janice Huntingford, DVM, DACVSMR, CVA, CVPP, CCRT, CAVCA, president of Essex Animal Hospital in Essex, Ontario, said.

“The ingredients in VetOMEGA 950 are complementary,” she continued. The product offers “omega-3 for the management of inflammation and pain, UC-II to reduce further cartilage damage, and hyaluronic acid for joint lubrication and collagen production.”

VetOMEGA 950 is now available in the United States and Canada through licensed veterinarians in 60- and 120-count containers.
