New York—A new long-lasting anti-biotic for the control and treatment of bovine respiratory disease is now available from Pfizer Animal Health.

Excede™ (ceftiofur crystalline free acid) Sterile Suspension is a sustained-release formulation of ceftiofur that provides seven days of continuous therapy with a single injection.

"We're very excited about the development and introduction of Excede," says Mike Layfield, marketing Manager, U.S. Cattle Marketing - Dairy Anti-Infectives at Pfizer Animal Health.

Excede is indicated for the control of respiratory disease in cattle at high risk of developing BRD (shipping fever, pneumonia) and for the treatment of BRD associated with Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida and Haemophilus somnus, the company says.

The product is administered subcutaneously in the middle one-third of the back of the ear. A special 45-degree bevel needle has been developed to help ensure proper administration.

Excede Sterile Suspension is available in 100-mL vials.
