The organization declared Cornerstone Hospice and Palliative Care the 2021 winner of the Ingrid Thornquist award, recognizing its efforts of helping 114 pets and their families amid the pandemic.

The Pet Peace of Mind (PPOM)—a 501(c)(3) organization that partners with hospice, home healthcare organizations, and hospitals to enrich quality of life with pets—recently named Cornerstone Hospice and Palliative Care in Tavares, Florida, the 2021 recipient of the Ingrid Thornquist Award.

The award, previously known as The Pet Peace of Mind Program of the Year Award, acknowledges the advanced efforts of one exceptional partner dedicated to the founding program’s philosophy to “ensure treasured pets are included in the patient’s circle of care.” What’s more, the named award also honors Ingrid Thornquist, a key benefactor whose zeal for the human-animal bond reflects PPOM’s core values of compassion and caring.

According to an organizational release, amid the difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic, Cornerstone Hospice demonstrated these core values by helping a total of 114 pets and their families, rehoming 20 of those companions, and fostering out pets during challenging circumstances to ensure desirable placement.

“We are delighted to present this award to Cornerstone. Since they launched their program in 2011, they have been an exemplary partner in every way. The compassion and care they demonstrate to patients and their pets are an excellent example of their commitment to preserving the human-animal bond at the time when patients and pets need each other most,” said Dianne McGill, President and Founder of Pet Peace of Mind, in the release.

“We congratulate Cornerstone Hospice and Palliative Care for their outstanding commitment to their Pet Peace of Mind program,” she continued.

Additionally, PPOM strives to enhance the quality of life for critically ill patients and their beloved pets by training human healthcare organizations to develop volunteer-driven programs designed to preserve the bond between patients and their pets.
