Cindy Bressler, DVM, known best for her house-call veterinary work in New York City and the Hamptons, announced she will be opening WAVE Center for Veterinary Emergencies in the Hamptons. According to an organizational release,1 WAVE will be the first of its kind all-night emergency clinic in the Hamptons. Phase I of its opening will begin June 23, 2022, with the center functioning as a pop-up clinic.

“In all the years I have been a house-call vet here in the Hamptons, we have had to transport pets in dire situations at night to the closest emergency hospitals an hour or two away for full-scale treatment, and very often pets don’t make it in time,” Bressler disclosed in the release,1 “Opening this clinic will bring emergency care home, and with it, greater chances of survival.”

During her work as an on-call veterinary Bressler recognized while she can help provide care, she cannot cover all aspects of emergencies alone. With the opening of this emergency center, Bressler and the staff of emergency doctors and ICU nurses will be better equipped to address emergencies and stabilize patients in case a transfer is needed for specialized cases.

“In busy summer seasons, the lack of a local emergency hospital was often tragic, and eliminating the need for patient transfers could have changed the entire story. Many more lives can be saved now…The Hamptons are known to offer a wealth of amenities, but in an era of pet abundance fueled by COVID-19, our residents and visitors can’t go another summer without an immediate emergency night vet hospital,” Bressler explained.

Within Phase 1, the clinic will be open Thursday-Sunday from 7 PM to 7 AM. The limited hours will eventually expand to accommodate more emergencies and will set the clinic up for Phase II. Within the next phase, the hospital hopes to evolve along with the community's needs to help create a solid foundation of care.
