A new law, Senate Bill 2080, allows drug dispensing by certified veterinary technicians who have met academic and certification requirements set forth by the state board of pharmacy. Veterinary retail facilities must also receive a permit from the state pharmacy board in order to operate, according to the law. A valid veterinarian-client-patient relationship will be required for any drugs dispensed under the new classification.
The law was passed April 25.
