Merck Animal Health recognized for its innovative achievements

The company is deemed ‘best animal health company' by international information provider IHS Markit for its robust financial strength and product innovation.

Merck Animal Health has been named best animal health company in North America by IHS Markit, a provider of information, analytics, and solutions for industries and markets throughout the world. The recognition is based on the company’s strong financial strength and product innovation.

“Being recognized by IHS Markit as the best animal health company in North America is a testament to our people,” said Scott Bormann, senior vice president, Merck Animal Health, North America, in a press release.

“Our strong pipeline brings together holistic solutions from biopharma and animal intelligence to address our customers’ animal health needs. But, at the end of the day, it is our people—the industry’s best—who deliver for our customers and are fueling our success, and I could not be prouder,” Bormann continued.

According to Merck, the company's ongoing levels of growth by its’ companion pet and livestock businesses was cited by IHS Markit. What's more, IHS Markit also cited Merck Animal Health’s combined core expertise in traditional animal health products and its market-leading position in the burgeoning digital technology solutions in tracking, monitoring, and traceability as major strengths.

IHS Markit also named Merck Animal Health’s Whisper on Arrival, a device and wireless application system, as the Best New Food Animal Product. The first technology of its kind, according to Merck, Whisper on Arrival delivers actionable data to feedlot managers and veterinarians to better enable objective decisions for controlling bovine respiratory disease (BRD). Consisting of a state-of-the-art sound collection device and a predictive algorithm, the technology analyzes an individual animal’s lung sound, heart sound, rectal temperature, and weight and calculates each animal’s risk of developing BRD. This precision animal care technology employs real-time information to help determine a treatment plan for the animal and reduces the need for antibiotics.

Merck cited the product’s breakthrough technology for its receipt of the recognition from IHS Markit.

“The steadfast focus of our teams on customer needs, from our technical services to research and manufacturing, we are focused on providing innovative products, technologies, services, and insights to help our customers,” said Bormann. “Additionally, we are committed to the animals we serve, our communities, the veterinary profession, and future leaders—all contributing to our unconditional support.”

Additionally, Merck Animal Health’s commitment includes veterinary scholarships, research grants, charitable and product donations, and partnerships with organizations that advance animal health.
